My Journal

August 12 (Monday)

Yesterday I did a big rewrite on Chapter Seventy-Five; most of the monologue is the same, but other than that it’s completely different.  I also finished reading Chapter Seventy-Six, which means I only have one more chapter to go, not including the epilogue.  Kind of exciting!  Of course, while I was reading I came up with six different things I need to go back and fix, but mostly little things, thank goodness.  It’s definitely going to be ready by my birthday.

One big decision I had to make, though, was whether to call the trellised flowers figwort or creeping snapdragon.  In the end I decided creeping snapdragon sounded better with the rest of the sentence than figwort.  I could always try putting both as if they were different kinds, of course, and seeing how many garden experts notice and chew me out on it.  Hmm, not a bad idea.  Sounds kind of fun.  Nothing like attracting the wrath of garden people to gain publicity for your book.  I mean, just think what fun trivia that will make ten years later?

Oh, you know what else I learned at the Chesterton Conference that I forgot to mention?  I learned that it’s not ‘quote of the week’ but rather ‘quotation of the week’, quote being a verb and quotation a noun.  I’ve changed it on my blog, as you will notice, but not on Facebook (not sure why, just haven’t).  Ah, the wonderful world of English grammar.
